Frugal Fun in East Texas: Kidsview Park

Kidsview Park is a castle inspired playground that has a fantastic selection of climb-upons surrounding the tower structure. Even though the play park is located in Longview, Texas, it's impressive enough for big city folks. Plenty of East Texas residents visit the park for reasons other than skiing, which speaks volumes for the many attractions of Kidsview Park. In addition to the popular castle and bridge, the park has an abundance of slides, ramps, and swings. The park is an imagination mecca and there plenty of activities to delight any rambunctious child. Also, during the hot months, a free splash pad is located right next door. More on that in another post.

Doll Crafting 101

I decided to make some doll clothes for my youngest while she was at her dad's and surprise her with a whole new wardrobe. Um, yeah, didn't quite turn out like I planned.

First, I forgot how long it takes me to make doll clothes. It took over two hours to make this pair of pants!

I picked this pant pattern so I could try 3 new skills: drawstring waist, eyelet installation, and pockets. Ambitious to say the least.

I eventually gave up on the pockets. The eyelets went well, but drawstrings proved challenging. The ones on the cuffs ended up being decorative only. No function whatsoever. The drawstring waist works, but it took several tries to get it setup correctly.

Lesson learned: do not take on such a challenging project without help from an experienced sewer.

Ultimately, my daughter won't care that the pants are a little less than perfect.

Making memories sometimes comes requires a little trial and error.
